Tropical Kale Shake

Going on vacation has many perks. One of them being trying out new things, or rather, trying a new twist on something you enjoy all the time. For me, that was my Kale shake.

I have been into this refreshing beverage since being introduced by a close friend of mine a few years back. She remarked on it’s delicious flavor and benefit of giving you tons of energy and said that I had to try it. I admit, I was a bit skeptical, but decided to give it a shot. Her recipe comprised of 4 Dino Kale leaves, de-stemmed, 4 ice cubes, 1 banana and a cup of water. Pulvarize and enjoy. My first thought as I tried this green glop was “ewww” but I knew it was good for me, so I decided to give it another try. I figured, I could learn to love it. Since that fateful day, I have been enjoying my Kale shake almost daily.

While on a recent vacation to Kauai, I decided to spice up the drink being inspired by the abundant fresh fruits at hand. I added in pineapple and blueberries, along with some nonfat plain greek yogurt and created the perfect beverage. I’ve been back for almost 3 weeks now and can honestly say that I have been hooked on this beverage and have enjoyed it in one form or another since then. So…if you want to try it for yourself, here’s the recipe. Keep in mind, you might risk gaining a new obsession.

Tropical Kale Shake: 4 Dino Kale leaves, de-stemmed. 4 cubes of pineapple. 4-5 cubes of ice. 1/2-1 cup of water. 1 banana. Handful of blueberries. Option to add in 1/2 c. of nonfat plain yogurt. Option to add in a handful of blackberries. Blend and enjoy!
